Choir Year in Reveiw

Choir Year in Review:

All-State Choir Members:  C. Shutt (3rd year), A. Nolan (2nd year), C. Suesakul (2nd year), K. Hicok (2nd years), J. Rich (1st year), M. Bayse (1st year), and B. Shutt (1st year)

Show Choir:  Waukee Show Choir Invitational, North Polk Show Choir competition (2nd place Div. 3A, Best Choreography, Best Male Soloist—B. Shutt),  Dutchmasters Show Choir competition in Pella, (4th place Div. 3A) plus our own Take Two Festival and our FOFA Night.

Jazz Choir:  Waukee Festival, Valley Jazz Summit (Voices invited to perform at evening concert), and SWCC FoxFest.  Voices placed 4th at Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships in Class 3A.  Outstanding Musicians at State included K. Hicok and C. Suesakul.  Other performances included FOFA Night and the DC-G Academy Awards. 

All-State Jazz Choir:  M. Bayse, I. Rutherford and A. Nolan all chosen to participate in the All-State group which will perform at the ICDA Summer Convention in July, 2012.

Large Group:  Mixed Chorus and Bass Clef received I ratings from all 3 judges.  The 2 Treble Choirs received II ratings.

Solo/Ensemble:  We had 56 entries from solos to quartets.  Best of Center were C. Shutt and K. Hicok’s duet and K. Hicok’s solo.

Honor Choirs:  C. Shutt was chosen for the NC-ACDA Honor Choir and the Iowa State University Honor Choir.

Disney Trip:  118 band and choir students traveled to Orlando in March to participate in the Disney clinics and to perform at the Waterside Stage in Downtown Disney.

NC-ACDA Convention:  48 singers were selected as the Demonstration Choir for the North Central American Choral Director’s Association Bi-annual Convention in Madison, Wisconsin.  We helped with the session on Bel Canto Solfeggio and Music Literacy, led by John Armstrong and Kristin Zaryski, as well as performing a short concert at the close of the day.

Music at DC-G is a growing tradition with over a third of the student body participating in one of our curricular ensembles.
